Google had a lot of announcements to make in the #GoogleForIndia event. The company announced several new features and apps specifically designed for India. Among them is Google Tez. The application launched in September 2017 has undergone a lot of changes since its launch. Google Tez will allow users to pay their utility bills including phone bill, electric gas bills, postpaid mobile bills, DTH and more. The bill payment feature will be gradually available from next month.  With over 70+ billers & due date reminders in one app, Tez is definitely lightning fast with its numbers.

Tez has processed over 140 million transactions from nearly 12 million active users. There are more than 525,000 merchants already on Tez, using it to make payments, pay their suppliers or transfer money to employees.

The app has also added a feature called Sparks which are little fun animated moments that trigger when a certain word or phrase appears in the message when making payments such as "hello" or "India". Tez will also remind users when a bill is due. And they cannot pay a bill twice since the payment status is automatically updated.

In addition to Google Tez, Google announced an extension of the Internet Sathi program to support the Foundation For Rural Entrepreneurship Development (FREND) set up by Tata Trust. Sapna Chadha, Marketing Head, SEA & India said, "In spite of the socio-economic challenges, thousands of Internet Saathis have gone on to do amazing things, once they learned the Internet. It was this winning spirit that inspired us to create a new sustainable framework with Tata Trusts, that aims to deliver employment opportunities to Internet Saathis."

Google is planning to expand the Google Station programme across the country this year. The programme provides Internet to 227 railway stations in the country, with 22 stations going live by this month. With this achievement, the search giant is on track to connect all 400 stations next year that was planned late last year. Alongside railway stations, Google is planning to enable high-speed public wifi through Google Station in Indian cities. Google is currently in partnership with the government's enterprise RailTel Corporation to provide fast Internet access on mobile devices through Google Station.
