Google rolling out ‘instant tethering’ feature

It is always too much hard work when you try to make your Google device a 'hotspot.' Not only is the process tedious, but also a bit complicated. Hence, to ease the process of tethering a mobile hotspot, Google has begun rolling out ‘Instant Tethering’ feature to turn on Wi-Fi hotspot without touching the phone.

Instant Tethering Feature

Android Police report suggests that Google is introducing this feature as part of the Google Play Services 10.2 update. The Instant Tethering feature will allow the devices connected to a common Google account to be seamlessly linked with each other. So, the moment your Pixel C or Nexus tablet loses connection to the existing Wi-Fi connection it will get automatically connected to the hotspot.

If we go step by step, then the feature is expected to run on connection over bluetooth. Whenever you are unable to log in to a wifi system, you’ll see a pop-up on your device asking you to get back online via your smartphone’s internet connection. The road beyond it is pretty simple; you need just to tap the 'Connect' button to get back to work.

Except for the few initial steps, this feature will not require any additional setup and the request for connection most likely goes over Bluetooth.

As per the report, this feature isn’t available for every Android user right away. And it might not even appear for you even when you’ve updated Google Play Services to the latest version.

It is, however, being suggested that the "Instant Tethering is rolling out first for Nexus and Pixel devices running Android Nougat 7.1.1. The Nexus 9 and Pixel C are supported only as clients—they can connect to your compatible phone, and this will work even on Marshmallow. Phones like the Pixel XL work as the hotspot side. However, two phones can also connect to each other with Instant Tethering if one of them loses its connection."

Hopefully, the feature will see the light for other android phones as well.
