CIOL Google is expanding the functionality of Google Classroom

Google is opening up its Classroom educational service to allow anyone create new classes, attend classes, or manage assignments. While earlier, opening new classes required you to have a G Suite for education account, now you only need a personal Google account to do so.

In a blog post, Google wrote, "Starting today; users can do more than join classes—they can create them, too. Over the past few weeks, teachers and students have been piloting this new feature, and they’ve already created some great new classes for adult education, hobbies, and after school programs."

With the latest update, now anyone can set up and organise a class on the platform, which allows educators to set up and maintain course, including both in person and online remote education courses.

Classroom is available across platforms since it’s web-based, making it easier to set up and start the course. This might turn out to be a big boon for private educational organisations, independent skill coaches, and hobby instructors.

With some examples, Google points to 3 specific use of Classroom in its post. The first is an adult course on graphic design using Google Drawings. The second involves after school programs, in this instance a girl scout group dedicated to building robots. And finally, it talks about a student-run club intended to bring together those wanting to discuss design, art, and programming.
