Google Earth passes one billion download mark

BANGALORE, INDIA: Search engine giant Google has announced that, its Virtual Globe, Google earth has passed one billion downloads.

The number of download includes download from desktop client, mobile apps and the Google Earth plug-in.

"We're proud of our one billion milestone, but we’re even more amazed at the way people have used Google Earth to explore the world," Brian McClendon, VP of Engineering, Google Earth and Maps in a blog post.

To commemorate the milestone, Google launched a new Google Earth-centric website, www.OneWorldManyStories.com, which allows users of Google Earth to share their stories using Google earth in day today life.

"If you have a Google Earth story you'd like to share, we'd love to hear from you," added McClendon.

Launched in 2005, Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean.
