Google announces makeover for Gmail service

BANGALORE, INDIA: After the revamp of its homepage, launch of social networking site Google +, the search engine giant Google has previewed some of its new interface updates for Gmail.

Starting from Thursday, Google allowed its Gmail users to have a sneak peek of its interface updates.

Google had recently announced that, the company has plans to launch new design improvements across all its products.

As part of the revamp activity for Gmail, Google has added two new themes, which will be suggested to the users when they log in. The Gmail user has an option to choose "Preview" or "Preview (Dense)" themes, which are available in the theme tab in Gmail settings.

"This is part of a Google-wide effort to bring you an experience that’s more focused, elastic, and effortless across all of our products," said user experience designer Jason Cornwell said in a blog post.

He further added, "we know that you love and care about Gmail as much as we do, and we’ll be working on these upgrades gradually over the next few months to allow plenty of time to understand and incorporate your feedback into the evolving design."

Google anticipates the new interface will eventually expand dynamically to accommodate different screen sizes and user preferences.

Cornell further added that, one of the reasons we’re embarking on a series of interface updates is to help strip out unnecessary clutter and make Gmail as beautiful as it is powerful.
