BANGALORE: Search engine giant,Google recently announced that it has added a new feature, 'multiple inboxes', on experimental basis, for Gmail.

The new feature allows users to have more than one inbox in their default Gmail view and lets users see up to four lists of email messages in addition to their inbox, all on one screen, it said.

It allows people to filter and label their mail in an organized list of their choice for easy browsing.

"I'm seriously into filters and labels. All the email I get related to Flash goes under my 'flash' label, everything about paragliding goes under 'flying', and they all skip my inbox because that's how I like to stay organized,” said Google software engineer Octavian 'Vivi' in a company blog post.

“But when new email arrives I have to switch to the 'flash' label first, then click on 'paragliding', etc. I wanted a way to see it all at once."

The users can customize their inbox to always display mail from different folders or with customized set labels. The feature can support up to five panes on the right, top or bottom of your inbox, as well as a customized number of conversations per display.

This new 'multiple inboxes' feature is accessible via the Labs tab in Gmail's Settings area. Once enabled, the page will refresh and display two new default panes of Gmail messages to the right of the inbox.
