It brings new tools to users getting them features that are not available through Google products. Launch partners include Avery label Manager, EasyBib's Bibliography Creator, Mailchimp, Letter Feed, Uberconference and many more. For now, the update could only be seen for the Google docs and sheet, but is expected to come down for its other services.

The search giant looks forward to include more add-ons to the list and give a wider scope to third party app developers to bring in their services.

Currently, the these add-ons are build using the Google Apps script, which is basically a JavaScript based language and have to be ratified via Google.

These add-ons will be privy to automatic updates and users will be able to share functionality without sharing the code unlike other App scripts projects. They will also facilitate better collaboration.

Microsoft's Office suite has been big on add-ons for a few years and now with the launch of add-ons for Google Docs, Google has again managed to add functional parity with Microsoft's all conquering software stack.

Of course, Office remains a much more powerful tool, but the addition of these add-ons could make Google Docs a force to be reckoned with over time for the power user. It's already very popular with people who have light weight editing tasks and the best bit is that it can be accessed from anywhere as it's a web app and it's free.
