According to Moscow based Kaspersky Labs, the Santy.e worm can target sites that have allowed arbitrary file inclusion into PHP scripts, unlike its predecessors that attacked Web sites running the phpBB software, only. Officials at Kaspersky Labs also informed that the attack can be prevented with secure coding.

Several incidents of Santy.e worm attacks have been reported, servers have either failed or have been rendered dead slow under the effect of the attack. The worm uses Google search to identify Web pages with PHP script and functions like "include()" and "require()."

Preventing Santy.e attacks may require rewriting scripts with the include() and require() functions and hence will be time consuming according to security analysts.
