BANGALORE: Goldman Sachs is setting up business process outsourcing (BPO) for its global operations at the Electronic City campus, in the outskirts of Bangalore. Prior to setting up a direct presence, the investment banking major outsourced the work to Viteos, the BPO arm of Bangalore based Velankanni Software. This comes in the wake of media reports informing that the company had announced 250 jobs to be shifted to India, within the next 18 months.

According to information received from reliable sources, the company is in the process of selecting the first 20 professionals for its initial operation. To induce the Goldman Sach culture, the company will be flying the 20 to New York for a rigorous three month training program, followed by a on-the-job training in its head quarters at the US financial capital. At the end of the training program, the 20 will be operating out of Bangalore.

The head of global operation of Goldman Sach, Jonathan King is in the city personally selecting the first set of the 20 employees in India. Repeated efforts to reach him at the Viteos office at the Electronic City proved futile.

Bangalore, along with other Indian cities plays host to most of the Fortune companies for outsourcing its BPO work. This is either done by outsourcing to Indian ITES companies offering the service or setting up their own shop. The latest to join the bandwagon is Reuters, apart from Microsoft, Aviva, BT, Tesco, among others.
