CALIFORNIA, USA: General Motors Co has named an AT&T Inc executive to head its global human resources operations.

The U.S. automaker said on Monday that Cynthia Brinkley would assume the HR job effective July 1. She joins from AT&T, where she was a senior vice president for talent development and chief diversity officer in charge of developing future leaders and company training.

Brinkley, 51, will report to GM Chief Executive Officer Dan Akerson and serve on the company's executive operations committee. She succeeds Mary Barra, who earlier this year was named senior vice president of global product development but has continued to lead human resources while her successor was sought
