BANGALORE: Global Systems Technology is all set to offer a set of eight
courses in collaboration with the United States International University. The
program, titled Summer 2000, will offer skill based training to information
technology organizations in India and other software intensive Asian countries.
The joint training program is designed to provide IT industry a low cost, highly
effective means of preparing a young workforce with the skills needed to perform
non-engineering tasks.
The training program is based on the principles of the Capability Maturity
Model-Integrated (CMMI) developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at
the Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU) and on the technical management principles
of the People Capability Maturity Model (PCMM). Summer 2000 will be held in
seven cities–Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai and Trivandrum
in India and Singapore, from June 26 to August 10. Each four-day workshop will
include practical applications as well as lectures. And each participant who
finishes the course will receive a Certificate of Attendance. In addition, those
who attain a significant score will receive a Certificate of Accomplishment in
recognition of their performance.
At present, 22 companies have achieved CMM level 5, of which 17 are from
India. According to General Manager Global Systems Technology Chris R Knudason,
more than 80 per cent of the companies having SEI-CMM level 5 are in India. This
is because industries in the US are more market driven rather than process
driven as in India. Chris said, "This training program is designed for all
those involved in project and process management." Global Systems
Technology plans to open offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and Hyderabad shortly. It
will also float a subsidiary, which will be called Global Solution Technology
India Pvt. Ltd.
