Global Edge acquires Ionic Microsystems

NEW DELHI: As part of its ongoing expansion plans, Bangalore based embedded software services company Global Edge Software has announced that it has acquired the assets of Ionic Microsystems, another Bangalore based technology provider for wireless LAN and broadband residential gateways.






Ionic's technology offering is in the form of system-level designs, firmware and middleware required for a range of products for SOHO and home market segment. The company specializes in VoIP, Video on demand, WLAN and Blue Tooth technologies for a variety of home networking needs. Global Edge Software has a design and development center in Bangalore and marketing offices in USA. Global Technology Ventures Ltd, is an Indian investment company and is supported by Bank of America Equity Partners.





Announcing the acquisition, founder CEO and chairman of Global Edge Software MP Kumar said, "This acquisition strengthens Global Edges' existing service offering and provides it with additional technical capability to reach out to more customers aside from increasing its footprint in some existing ones. Global Edge now offers complete end-to-end solutions in embedded wireless and residential gateway areas".





"We are currently on an expansion mode, and are anticipating rapid growth over the next few years in line with the global market. The total global potential of embedded market revenue is about $21 billion, growing at an annual compounded rate of 16 percent. Global Edge is poised to achieve higher growth rates in this niche high technology service area, building on its core competencies. We are presently around 300 people, which is likely to be ramped up to 450 in a couple of years," he added.
