GITEX India kicks off in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The sixth edition of Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX) India, organized jointly by the government of Andhra Pradesh and Dubai World Trade Center (DWTC) kicked off at the Hitex international trade exhibition center here today.

The two-day Electronics and Software Promotion Council (ESC) of India-organized India Soft 2007 also got underway at the same venue today.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy inaugurated both the events. Addressing the gathering Reddy said that the state government is trying to improve the skilled workforce in Andhra Pradesh. He said that the government is targeting to have 60-80 per cent of the engineering graduates from the state recruited by the IT industry as against the present figure of 22 per cent.

Jainder Singh, secretary, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India, stressed on the need to have IT townships and establishment of infrastructure in the Tier II cities.

B Ramalinga Raju, chairman, Satyam Computers, called upon to scale the domestic industry by effectively using the IT and BPO industries.

Also present at the inaugural function were P Sabitha Reddy, state minister of IT, minister of major irrigation P Lakshmaiah, Mahir Julfar, representative from DWTC and K Ratna Prabha, principal secretary (IT&C), government of Andhra Pradesh.

GITEX India concludes on January 11.
