Getjar's Mobile app store crosses 2 bn downloads

SAN MATEO, USA: GetJar, largest free app store has announced that it has reached over 2 billion downloads for its app store.

GetJar has been able to reach this number by providing its worldwide audience with over 150,000 applications, a database of applications that grows daily, said a company release.

"We credit our growth in downloads to our open approach to the app marketplace,” said GetJar Founder & CEO, Ilja Laurs.

"Giving developers for all platforms a free space to distribute their applications has proven popular to both developers and consumers," added Laurs.

According to the release, user interest and downloads continue to be highest among games, social & messaging, entertainment, and productivity applications. Among the 2 billion downloads on GetJar, Facebook is the top most downloaded app with over 100 million downloads.

"GetJar's social aspects and free business model have been key to our growth, but even more growth is predicted," said Laurs.

"As we’ve seen Android interest increase, we’ve also seen interest in GetJar increase. With Android exclusives such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, GetJar has become an even bigger player in a field of giants and a destination for free Android apps," concluded Laurs.
