With smart devices being purchased by every tech-savvy person, companies have realized the potential in allowing them to use their own devices, which explains the success of the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) concept.

A report by ABI Research states that over 9 billion Wi-Fi enabled devices have been shipped since 2009, and Gartner predicts mobile application downloads will hit 310 billion by 2016.

Still, there are concerns over security, in such a scenario of letting employees use their own gadgets on the office network, which has predominantly wireless backbone. So, despite increasing adoption of BYOD, organizations have their own set of reservations.

Realizing this, Aruba Networks, which is into wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, has come up with 'next-gen' WLAN infrastructure for mobile app delivery for BYOD, which it claims to be the fastest and most intelligent of such platforms.

In fact, it is being pitched as a solution that addresses the next wave of BYOD with 11 times faster application performance at half the cost.

On the new solution, Dharmendra Kumar, president, sales, India and SAARC, says that it offers the best user experience, while cutting the cost by half. He points out three specific needs in BYOD: Improving WLAN performance, giving IT departments visibility and securing the data and devices.

"Now, a lot of people use wireless first unlike before and they are looking for most strategic ways to use wireless networks. Also, IT managers want to scale up to WiFi, as too many devices are trying to access the network. With our solution, we are adding visibility to even different devices by the same user, so can IT departments can handle it easily," explains Kumar.

Apart from that, Aruba's mobility controllers are built to provide application intelligence and help organizations. In its Instant Enterprise solution, Kumar says that they have integrated controller-like functionalities into controller-less access points. They have also video- and voice-optimized the solution, which is touted to have central intelligence.

According to Kumar, with Service Set Identification (SSID), they have application-aware WLAN solutions made available in India. Aruba Networks caters to key verticals such as hospitality, higher education, retail, and corporates. It has an R&D Centre in Bangalore with about 200 employees, apart from an APAC support centre.

He says besides authentication, their solution prevents eavesdropping through encryption and more importantly, adds a layer of authorization to detect each and every packet transferred real-time. Incidentally, SMBs make the fastest growing segment for Aruba in India.
