Confirming the rumours of the forthcoming launch of the new version, the developers of the standard, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, said it would announce the group's latest Bluetooth standard on April 21.

“Bluetooth 3.0, aka 'Seattle', will be unveiled at the All Hands Meeting in Tokyo," TechNewsWorld quoted Bluetooth SIG spokesperson Starr Baker as saying.

According to Bluetooth SIG, the new version would deliver even faster short-range wireless speeds (up to 480 Mbit/s) and would reduce chances of device disconnections when syncing, with the help of the feature 'Enhanced Power Control'.

Bluetooth 3.0 will bring with it dramatically improved file transfer speeds by using 802.11 technology (not technically WiFi, which is a certified version of 802.11 standards) that will enable the transfer of much larger files, said reports.

According to the official blog of Bluetooth SIG, Bluetooth 3.0 can wirelessly transfer an entire music library, a complete DVD or a vacation's worth of photos, all within seconds.
