NEW DELHI: India and Germany have old business ties and it needs to be leveraged said, HJ Kiderlen, German Minister and deputy ambassador. He was speaking at the business promotion forum organized by leading IT magazine, Dataquest. The Indo-German Chamber of Commerce along with Bavaraian business promotion body, gotoBavaria has urged the Indian IT industry to increase its business ties between the two countries.

The Green Card Initiative launched sometime back attracted huge interest from the Indian business community accounting for 30 percent of the 5,000 visas issued under that scheme.

The German Government is contemplating another scheme for special visas promoting business relations soon. The size of Indo-German trade relations would be in the region of five billion Eurasia.

According to gotoBavaria, there are already 12 Indian companies operating in the state of Bavaria, Germany's largest federal state by area and the second largest state by population.

The biggest business possibility for Indian IT companies with Germany would be in the area of embedded systems and high-end component manufacturing. Because of the language barrier seeking to get outsourced work in the traditional BPO sense would not be lucrative, pointed out experts.

Aftek Infosys Chairman and CEO Ranjit Dhuru said that it is better to enter the German market through a local partner who has a good client base. Mumbai-based Aftek has been operating in Germany for sometime now and had entered the market with an alliance with Arexera Information Technology GmBH who had a good client base. Aftek operates in embedded systems and mobile wireless technology space and Aftek acquired Arexera in March this year.
