LONDON: According to an agreement just struck between GE Lighting and Rambus, lighting patents, manufacturing process information and reference designs from Rambus will be used by GE.

Sources say that the main thrust of GE Lighting’s immediate plans will be on flat paneled LED lighting systems that will be used in the commercial and architectural field. LED lighting is considered to be superior to other lighting due to being high in energy efficiency and having a longer life. GE already offers lighting products for retail display, outdoors, architectural, signage and other such requirements.

The idea is to work with what Rambus has to offer, and create a new generation of LED products that are far more advanced and efficient than what is on the market now, with increased cost competitiveness and energy efficiency. The focus will be on continuing to be a leading innovator in the field of lighting and launch pioneering products that can be used in residential and commercial settings around the world.

Rambus’ lighting and display division was launched in 2009. Their product technology includes MicroLens light distribution features, edge lit LED optical designs, light guide panels and multi function film manufacturing.
