CHENNAI: Future Software, a communication software firm has been assessed at
People CMM Level 3 (developed by Software Engineering Institute of Carnegie
Melon University, Pennsylvania).
With this status, Future Software now attains the unique distinction of being
the first communication software firm in the world to have been assessed at
People CMM Level 3.
It also becomes the first company worldwide, in the communication software
industry to hold both a Software CMM Level 5 and the People CMM Level 3
assessment and the second one to have achieved both of these levels in the
global software industry.
It is the third Indian firm to have reached this milestone. The P-CMM Level 3
assessment was conducted by KPMG. The People CMM Level 3 achievement represents
that future software has mature people practices and it integrates the workforce
development with software process improvements in order to establish a culture
of software engineering excellence.
Commenting on this achievement head of HR at Future Software N V Rajan said,
"This assessment reflects the synergy between HR and the Software
Engineering Process Group in our firm. It also showcases the robust HR systems
and the best people practices we have in place. Of course, this is only a
significant milestone in our continuing journey towards excellence.
The firm obtained the ISO 9001 certification in September 1998. The Software
Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model (SEI CMM) was later adopted
and the company was assessed at CMM Level 4 in June 1999, at Level 5 in May 2001
(both by KPMG).
