Funds for computerising courts doubled

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The budgetary allocation for computerization of district and subordinate courts, burdened with over two crore cases, was on Friday doubled from Rs.105 crore in 2011-12 to Rs.213.66 crore in 2012-13.

The funds for the infrastructural facilities for judiciary were increased by Rs.4.57 crore to Rs.510 crore for the next fiscal from Rs.505.43 crore in 2011-12.

Under the National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms, the budget presented by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in parliament on Friday allocated Rs.37.50 crore. This provision was non-existent in earlier budgets.

For justice at litigants' doorsteps in villages, an allocation of Rs.109 crore was made to assist state governments establishing gram nyayalayas. In the year 2011-12, the allocation was Rs.25 crore.

The plan expenditure has seen an increase of Rs.278 crore from Rs.772 crore in 2011-12 to Rs.1,050 crore.

Under the non-plan expenditure the increase is merely Rs.53.32 crore from Rs.432.32 crore in 2011-12 to Rs.485.62 crore in the coming financial year.

Mukherjee allocated Rs.71.93 crore for spending on government's law officers, legal advisors and counsel of the department of legal affairs and also for legal aid to poor litigants through the National Legal Services Authority.
