Frost & Sullivan ranks Microsoft # 1 BI vendor

BANGALORE: Microsoft has emerged as the leading vendor of Business Intelligence (BI) software in India with 18 percent of the $33 million market, according to Frost & Sullivan (F&S). At an event held in Mumbai, F&S global best practices director Sailesh Dave also presented Microsoft with a Market Leadership award, in On- Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) Applications. On behalf of Microsoft, Microsoft India Enterprise Marketing senior marketing manager Tarun Malik received the award.

BI is an umbrella term for a set of tools and applications that allow corporate decision makers to gather, organize, distribute, and act on critical business information. It comprises applications and technologies used for accumulating, amassing, analyzing, and providing access to data to facilitate better, quick, and efficient decision making.

"The business intelligence market in 2004 was $ 33 million. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 29 percent over the next four years to reach $ 70 million in 2007. The maximum contribution to the market comes from data warehouse at 36 percent, followed by OLAP & reporting tools at 34 percent, ETL at 18 percent and analytics at 12 percent," added F&S, India information communication & technology practice director Alok Shende.

Commenting on Microsoft's value proposition in the BI space, Malik said, "Microsoft offers its customers the most comprehensive BI platform on the market, with integrated analytics, data mining, data warehousing and reporting functionality that integrate seamlessly into your overall application infrastructure to deliver real competitive advantage.
