The announcement, comments and reactions from the Parliament hall coming live as tweets, blogs and so on.... Social media world would soon witness such drama. The way the social media was active to catch the Oscars and the Union Budget hot once again shows the might of the social media platform in the day-to-day life of not just the tech-savvy, but the common man too.

While the country's Finance minister, Pranab Mukherjee was announcing the union budget for this fiscal 2011-12, there were flood of tweets from the users sharing the announcements. But lesser were the talks about the reactions.

Like a senior politician from the opposition tweeted through her account (@sushmaswarajbjp), “It is a conservative budget. The budget does not reflect a big thought. Only a ritual has been performed.”

On the other hand, while the FM helped the share market shoot up with his liberal announcements in the union budget, the social networking universe was also celebrating yet another gala event - the Oscar awards.

While anchor James Franco posted live tweets about the award night and also the pictures of Oprah Winfrey and backstage videos even as he hosted the Oscar award night, here the Union Budget was also not far behind when it comes to tweets, Facebook updates and postings on other social networking sites.

Though the Oscar night was said to be a telecast disaster, owing to the lack of chemistry between the anchors, the social networking platforms were celebrating the event like anything.

Incidentally, the film called 'The Social Network', based on the life of Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, failed to win any major awards. The movie that got nominated for eight Oscars, had to be satisfied with just three minor awards - best adapted screenplay, original score and film editing, while 'The King's Speech' was crowned the big winner with four Oscars, including the best movies award.

Social media is definitely changing the world around us. It is taking us to the good old days, where commentary over radio used to give us real and live experience of the event, without seeing it. Unfortunately, live the players of Cricket World Cup 2011 are prohibited to tweet, else, the social media enthusiast would have had a treat!
