Indian Railways recently announced that it would use the RFID technology for recruiting new candidates. This technology would replace the manual process of recruitment.

The Railway recruitment board would be replacing manual conduct with RFID for conducting physical efficiency test for hiring of non-gazetted subordinate staff.

The recruitment board has received permission from the Ministry of Railways to use RFID tags to time the “physical efficiency tests” of candidates for certain classes of employment on the railroad, it added.

As part of the selection process, the male and female candidates are expected to run 1, 500 meters and 400 meters respectively in a time period of 6 minutes and 3 minutes.

As the running process takes on, the individual timing from start to finish would be automatically recorded using RFID.

The officials hope the introduction of RFID technology to time and record results would improve efficiency, cut down on the possibility of tampering with test results.

It would not only make railway recruitment process transparent but also generate business for RFID companies, the release said.
