The agreement broadens availability and improves time-to-market for developer solutions engineered to optimize the performance, ease-of-use and energy efficiency of Freescale's product families targeting networking, aerospace/defense, and other key markets, said a press release.

"Wind River is an essential QorIQ and PowerQUICC partner with a long track record of support for Power Architecture(R)-based processors," said Raja Tabet vice president of Software and Systems for Freescale's Networking and Multimedia Group.

He added that this agreement enhances their joint collaboration and provides their shared customers with outstanding developer technologies that fully leverage the capabilities of their most highly advanced multicore processors.

As embedded multicore processors grow increasingly complex, operating systems and tools must be 'silicon-aware' and capable of fully leveraging the advantages of highly sophisticated SoC designs. Enhanced collaboration between Freescale and Wind River is intended to address this need for the ultimate benefit of QorIQ and PowerQUICC users.

"Freescale's QorIQ products help to enhance the state of embedded multicore processing, and our continued support for this product family is important for Wind River and the larger embedded marketplace," said Jim Douglas, senior vice president of marketing at Wind River.

He added that they are delighted to strengthen Wind River's longstanding relationship with Freescale and expand their support for the QorIQ and PowerQUICC product families.
