SINGAPORE: Commuters in Singapore will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi service at all MRT and 43 LRT station platforms as well as 30 bus interchanges and terminals by 2020.

Free Wi-Fi is now available at all of the 33 pilot stations in LTA’s trial as the final five — Buangkok, Kovan, Little India, Paya Lebar and Potong Pasir — began wireless service today. Commuters can recognise Wi-Fi-connected platforms by dedicated posters and decals displayed at the stations.

The Singapore Land Transport Authority announced on Monday that WiFi will be installed at 90 more MRT stations on the North-South and East-West Lines, Circle Line and Downtown Line, as well as the 43 LRT stations on the Bukit Panjang, Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems.

Providing an always connected journey for commuter enhances the commuting experience, said Rosina Howe-Teo, Group Director for Innovation and InfoComm Technology (LTA).

There are some 700,000 logins to the free WiFi service daily, a four-fold increase since the launch of the first three stations in August last year.

“We are very encouraged by the growing usage of the WiFi service at MRT nodes. LTA can also use the data to generate useful insights on crowd behavior and improve the delivery of our public transport services,” said Howe-Teo.
