Former Microsoft India MD to head Google India

MUMBAI: Internet search giant Google today named a new head to manage its India operations. In a statement, Google India said that it has appointed Rajan Anandan as vice-president, sales and operations, India. Prior to this, he was the managing director at Microsoft India.

As per media reports, Anandan would replace Shailesh Rao, who had two roles, that of MD and head of sales for India, and MD, media and platform sales, Japan & Asia-Pacific.

According to a PTI report, Rao would remain in Gurgaon and would focus on his role as the media and platform sales head for Japan and Asia-Pacific.

In a statement, Daniel Alegre, president, Japan and Asia-Pacific operations, said India is an important growth country for Google.

“With Internet users growing at 50 per cent year-on-year, a strong leadership team will ensure that Google captures this tremendous opportunity,” he was quoted as saying.

Anandan has a work experience of 18 years. At Microsoft, he looked after all software, OEM and services business in India. He has also worked in Dell (India) as vice-president and country general manager. Before that, he was a partner with McKinsey & Company in Chicago.
