NEW DELHI, INDIA: Bulky notebooks and laptops are passe. Ultra-sleek and sexy laptops are in. Thanks to the chipset major Intel. A new era of computing is on horizon. Everything today, except ultrabook, seems old fashioned believes Intel.

With form factor getting into the parlance of consumers' buying patterns, the chipset giant has shifted focus to ultrasleek and trendy ultrabooks. It has also started volume manufacturing of 22nm trigate transistors.

Powered by 3rd generation Intel Core processors, the new ultrabook platform offers increased media and graphics performance and long battery life. The chipset major is also banking on its anti-theft and Intel Identity Protection technologies, which comes pre-installed as trial version in upcoming ultrabooks.

With the launch of Wipro-enabled ultrabook today, Intel said that they have got an overwhelming response from the OEM partners, who are all set to rollout computing devices soon.

Intel South Asia MD (SMG) Debjani Ghosh said the three factors that matter today are responsiveness, mobility and form factor. "The new processor family facilitates up to 22 per cent more performance and encodes video faster," she added.

"With multi-device lifestyle today, we strive to offer best computing experience," Ghosh informed.

Intel Insider technology, combined with Intel Wireless Display (WiDi) she said, will allow streaming of premium HD movies from an ultrabook to HD TV without cablewire with stunning clarity.

The indicative price, Intel said would be around Rs 50,000 for new ultrabooks that would vary from one OEM to another. It also anticipates that the cost would come down as soon as volume business arrives.

HCL Infosystems VP and head (consumer computing) Princy Bhatnagar said that, based on 3rd Generation Intel Core processors, they would launch ultrabooks before the end of this year. "We are confident that our new range of ultrabooks will reinvent personal computing," added Bhatnagar.

The chipset giant also informed that it plans to launch convergence ultrabook with touchpad as well as entry-level cellphones during the last quarter of 2012.
