BANGALORE: VSL India a company specializing in providing marketing solutions

to the hospitality industry, has launched foodguideindia.com, a food portal.

According to a press release issued by the company, this portal has been

designed as a specialized food portal and its USP lies in providing an

exhaustive database of more than 25000 restaurants, pubs, takeaways and eateries

across all major cities in India. Features of this site include, a search

facility, gourmet recipes, celebrity interviews on their food preferences, food

festivals and promotions, travelers guide on where to eat abroad, trade news for

hoteliers and restauranteurs, recipe contests, etc..

As a Valentine's Special, the site has come up with a feature of personalized

banners by the site visitors and posting of the same on the site is absolutely

free. This company has been set up with a capital base of Rs 2 crore made by the

promoter Vikram Lulla and at a later date the company would consider dilution of

equity upto 20 per cent. The company plans to get its site e-commerce enabled

from April 2000. According to Mr Lulla, the potential customers are the industry

itself and the average food consumers.

The company is also talking to Citibank for setting up a secure payment

gateway. The technical support and maintenance is handled by Delhi-based web

specialists Vital Communications Ltd. and the company has also tied up with

Accor Corporate Services for "advanced search" of restaurants that

accept ticket restaurant food coupons and has bigger plans in the pipeline with

foodguideindia.com.
