BANGALORE: Feeling too lazy to drive in the heavy traffic, or not able to squeeze time in busy schedule to go to a restaurant or super market, or don’t want to go all way to pick up a movie CD and later return the CD?

Now with online services, it is just a click away to get all these at your doorstep.

Giving priority to home delivery services, Nexus Inc., started by a group of four IT professionals, has hosted HungryBangalore.com website, where one can order food online with the restaurants that are registered with them. This is India’s first online food service launched in Bangalore and is planning to expand the service to Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.

Commenting on choosing Bangalore to launch their service, a spokesperson from Nexus, said, “Bangalore being the Silicon Valley of India, it was the ideal place to start such a service. Apart from that, people in Bangalore are frustrated with the traffic situation and are looking for more options to avoid traffic. Also, as the promoters of this website are all settled in Bangalore, for a start-up, we feel it is very important in the initial stages to be present at the site rather than manage something from outside.”

They are also planning to launch another application for super markets, which enables purchasing groceries online and delivering them at the doorstep. It has already tied-up with retailer Monday to Sunday, and is looking at Foodworld and other supermarkets.

HungryBangalore enables you to order food online from the menu available at the restaurants that it has tied up with. Once order is placed, the customers are mailed order code, to confirm the order. Code is needed to give the delivery address to them. This code also helps to cancel the order.

The website that is a month-old has roped in around 50 restaurants, which includes Nandini, Malgudi, Tiger Bay and many others.

On about the criteria to add restaurants in its list, the spokesperson, who doesn’t want to be named for the time being, said, “We do not have any criteria for letting restaurants join us, but we do read reviews and feedbacks about restaurants before approaching them. We usually avoid restaurants that do not have good service.”

“We do not charge the restaurants anything for registering with us and do not have any plans in near future to do this either,” she added.

The customer need not pay for using the site. The order will be delivered at your doorsteps and bill can be paid to the delivery boy. The bill also includes delivery charges. This depends on the distance between the restaurant and delivery address.

One can also place advance orders for parties and bulk booking and even also order food before you reach the restaurant; reserve for weekend dinner for two or a business lunch.

“Being just a month old, orders are picking up slowly and with 16,000-17,000 hits so far, we have received 50-60 online orders from customers and majority of the orders have been for home delivery,” said, a spokesperson from Nexus Inc. “Few IT companies have also expressed interest to tie up with HungryBangalore.com services,” the spokesperson added.

Another such startup, which provides online service is Seventymm.com started in March 2006, is India’s first online movie rental service. Movie freaks can watch their favorite movie at their homes, which will be delivered at their doorstep. They can keep the CD as long as they want without any hassle of returning the CD and no late charges. The company offers free delivery and pick up of the CDs, at customers convenience. They are shortly opening its services in Bombay and Delhi.
