NEW DELHI: Flextronics has announced that it is planning to set up another manufacturing facility in India.

This announcement is a follow up of Minister of communications and IT Dayanidhi Maran's US visit recently, where he had met representatives of Flextronics.

Flextronics is an Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider focused on delivering innovative design and manufacturing services to technology companies.

The company is expected to announce the details of its expansion plans in a couple of weeks. Flextronics manufactures products in categories like consumer, telecom, components, etc.

The company is planning to manufacture products in verticals like telecom and consumer products in the new facility.

Refusing to divulge more details, Flextronics VP and the company's GM for India and Malaysia Vijayan Chinnasami said that in the last four years the company has invested close to $800 million -$900 million in India.

“This shows that we committed to India and the proposed investment would be in tune with the current investment. We are also very bullish about Indian telecom scenario and want to take advantage of the rapid growth being experienced by the sector,” he added.

He expects the new facility to employ about 1000-2000 people. Flextronics has short listed three locations for the new facility — Bangalore, Pondicherry and Chennai.

Worldwide Flextronics has an employee base of 95000, with around 3000 employees based in India.

The company currently has a manufacturing facility in India, which produces telecom products like telecom cards, infrastructure components, etc. and employs around 320 people.
