i-Flapp unveils pluggable drive

BANGALORE: You can now carry your applications in your pocket. Bangalore engineers of the Singapore-based i-Flapp Technologies Pte have developed AppsD, a software that will free PC users.

A simple storage device such as an external hard disk or a flash drive, and even your mobile SD card now turns active and intelligent with the application on demand software.

The iFlapp USB drive lets business travellers access Outlook, Office or Photoshop from any PC.

No longer will the manager have to lug a laptop around or hunt for a PC which has the required applications. By plugging in this drive, the applications can be launched and files can be opened, modified and saved on any nearby PC running Windows (2000 and above). The Safe Removal feature of i-Flapp removes all traces of information from the guest PC.

The mail synchronisation feature allows users of Outlook email client to carry their mail profile wherever they go.

Additionally, the Restore Profile feature lets you sync any changes done back onto your primary PC.

The firm plans to tie up with application developers such as Microsoft, Adobe and Autodesk in October.

Consumers will be able to buy Office off the shelf on a USB drive in what may well be ‘Office in a Flash,’ said Mr Sunder Mani, CEO and Founder, i-Flapp Technologies.

The firm will also be tying up with local application providers such as Tally and Pastel. The drive will be sold for Rs 1,000.

The company plans to sell 1.5 million units, which will translate to $14 million in revenue.

Of this, five per cent is expected to be from India.

The firm has approached venture capitalists to raise $5-10 million for investment in marketing initiatives.
