COLUMBIA, US: Scientific & Biomedical Microsystems, LLC, a developer of scientific and medical sensors and systems based on MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) and other microfabrication technologies, has been awarded a five-year Schedule 871 contract by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

The contract will streamline the ability of all United States Federal agencies and contractors to purchase SB Microsystems' advanced design, fabrication and test services.

SB Microsystems’ core capabilities include MEMS, microfluidics, embedded systems, precision machining, biosensors and wireless sensor networks. It claims it provides a full scope of early-stage product development services from concept development and detailed design all the way through to prototype fabrication, test, and manufacturing. Current projects include the development of miniature analytical instruments, point-of-care instrumentation and implantable medical and biological sensors.

“Our ability to span the range of design, production and test sets us apart from competitors, which tend to be either R&D services firms lacking the ability to do miniaturization, or foundries mainly focused on production,” said Brian Jamieson, President. “We are detail oriented, but not bogged down in details. We are smart, yet eminently practical. Creative, driven, optimistic, fun — not your typical engineers.
