First Telecom Summit 2014 held at Convergence India

NEW DELHI, INDIA: The Convergence India 2014 expo revolved around the concept of developing skilled personnel and a robust ecosystem for telecom, media and entertainment sectors.

The Telecom summit 2014 agenda was on "Home Grown Technologies and Skills'. The summit was jointly organized by Telecom Centers of Excellence (TCOE), Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC)and Exhibitions India Group and was supported by Government of India (DoT &DeitY), service providers, manufacturers, training partners, industry associations and academia.

The need to create an environment for innovation was emphasized in the inaugural address of the first Telecom Summit 2014. In addition, comments were made on "Indigenous R&D Initiative in India", "Telecom Skills Initiative", "Telecom Training", "Technology prototyping", "TCOE India's role and responsibility for NTP 2012", "Broadband for 600 million" and "TSDSI-Pathway for Indian IPRs into Global Telecom Standards", by the panelists.

Lt. Gen. SP Kochhar, CEO, Telecom Sector Skill Council, emphasized the importance of ‘skilling' in the Indian telecom sector- an initiative taken by the government in conjunction with the industry. He further added, "A full proof system is required which can guarantee that the individual hired fulfills the criteria in terms of skills required".

Day two of Convergence India 2014 expo also witnessed other sessions on "Next Gen Television", "Connecting digital revolution", "the evolution of Television in India", "Monetizing the Digitization".

Alex Borland, MD and CEO of Exset BV, said: "Operators need to take up multi-screen offers for new services, compliance services all to get traction with the consumers and retain them. They also need to look at greater revenue streams through new applications."

Prem Behl, chairman, Exhibitions India Group, said: "The turnout at the 2nd day of the Expo has been overwhelming. All the exhibitors expressed satisfaction at receiving quality visitors. Apart from the first telecom summit, we were delighted Jackie Shroff, film actor to promote the Afro-Asian Media Summit."

The first Afro-Asian Media Summit 2014 Press Conference also took place on 22nd January 2014. The summit comes at an opportune time as synergies are taking place between Asia and Africa. With exponential growth taking place, Jackie Shroff, actor, India Film Industry, said: "I am happy to be a part of the Afro Asian Media Summit. It is an initiative which has a great scope in terms of cross-content development and distribution." He also emphasized the need to create quality content showcasing both India and Africa and expressed his desire to be a part of the film made by both these nations together."
