They are primarily used for turning photographic film negatives and slides into digital files. These film scanners offer highest resolution in the market - 7200 x 7200 dpi and true 48-bit colour depth.

According to Karen Ku, vice president, Plustek, "OpticFilm 7200 and OpticFilm 7200i are ideal for both hobby photographers and professionals alike, who wish to scan their work and share it on the Web with fellow photographers or anyone want to digitize and archive their slides and negatives onto CD to create their own photo albums or digital slide shows."

Both OpticFilm 7200 and OpticFilm 7200i are easy to use and maintain. Two one-touch buttons allow for two scanning modes - QuickScan for basic, faster scanning; and IntelliScan for image-edited scanning. OpticFilm 7200 comes with an illuminated viewer on the top that enables quick naked-eye previews.

The negative and slide holders can be inserted and extracted through either side of OpticFilm 7200 and OpticFilm 7200i. The uniquely designed slide holders use a durable spring-clutch construction that holds slides in the optimal horizontal and vertical position for precise scanning. The self-closing magnetic cover flaps prevent dust from entering the scanner from the both the sides.
