NEW DELHI: FIBCOM, a joint venture between ITI and Tellabs Denmark, has announced that it has developed a state-of-the-art R&D center at its manufacturing facility in Gurgaon. The center was inaugurated by HRH Crown Prince of Frederik of Denmark who led a high power Danish delegation that included Bendt Bendtsen, Deputy Prime Minster and Minister for Economic and Business Affairs and John Shroeder, Chairman of the Confederation of Danish Industries. Also present on the occasion were SK Manocha, Chairman, FIBCOM, Peter Frederick, MD, Tellabs and Deepa Hingorani, representative of IFU Denmark, which is also a JV partner.

Enhanced R&D capabilities would enable FIBCOM to develop customized solutions and products for its end users. Thus, while initial R&D manpower consists of a team of 40 engineers, this is expected to increase. Peter Frederik said that with this center FIBCOM would now have two new distinct revenue streams — Software development and Systems development and would also have a competitive advantage in the market in the form of technical know-how from Denmark for the Indian market.

Speaking at the inauguration, DD Rajdev, MD of FIBCOM said that by acquiring the in-house R&D capabilities for Rs 4 crore, FIBCOM has successfully completed the transformation from being a pure manufacturer to one that is capable of developing its own products and systems. With the start of this center FIBCOM is moving away from being a pure manufacturer to one which is a developer of high technology products.
