FB 'Midnight' service faces privacy bug hours before New Year

BANGALORE, INDIA: Just a week after it launched its Midnight Delivery service and hours before the New Year, Facebook (FB) seems to have encountered a roadblock in the form of a bug.

Using the service, FB users can send messages to their contacts at the stroke of midnight on the New Year's day. It, basically, enables the messages to have public confirmation pages, which could be accessed by any with access to the URL, instead of dropping the messages in a private inbox of a user.

"As first reported by Jack Jenkins, Facebook's New Year's feature has a privacy flaw that allows anyone to view and potentially delete messages intended for other users," reported The Next Web.

Subsequently, it added that a Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the social media network was aware of the issue and working on a fix.

It quoted an official statement from Facebook, "We are working on a fix for this issue now, and in the interim we have disabled this app on the Facebook Stories site to ensure that no messages can be accessed."
