Facebook said to be working on its own video chat app

BANGALORE, INDIA: Facebook has been working on a video-chat app to take on the popular chat app Snapchat, reports Financial Times. Known internally as Slingshot, this app would allow users to send short video messages using a touch screen device.

The development takes place after facebook's failed attemept to acquire the popular mobile messaging app Snapchat last year.

Snapchat is designed around the concept of sharing brief moments with friends, with photos disappearing after they have been viewed. Snapchat has added video calls and chat facility in its app this month.

Compared to the social networks, the rising popularity of simple messaging apps among teenagers has emerged as an area of concern for Facebook and its seems that the company would leave no stone unturned to bring back its charm.
