Facebook is testing a new feature called 'downvote' button which lets users flag inappropriate comments and provide feedback about them. The downvote button will help clean up your timeline of hateful comments and fake news posts.
Facebook confirmed the feature to TechCrunch. The company said, “We are not testing a dislike button. We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts. This is running for a small set of people in the US only.”
Whenever Facebook's downvote button is clicked, the selected comment is hidden. People can then decide whether to flag a post as "offensive", "misleading" or "off-topic". However, it does not affect the visibility of the post for other people and does not affect its ranking in the news feed.
The new feature is similar to Reddit's upvote/downvote structure, except the downvote button from Facebook is not like Dislike button which the Facebook users are wishing the company would introduce sometime.
According to Facebook, the feature test will affect about 5 percent of Android users who have “English” set as the default language in the app. The downvote button, for now, only appears on public Page posts, not on Groups posts or those from individual users.
