M is Facebook’s long-anticipated personal assistant that will be integrated within Messenger, which was announced in August 2015. The chatbot is currently available only to a handful of testers, which helps them buy gifts or make reservations.

As per Android Police report, Facebook is testing a redesigned UI for the Messenger window, with M assistant.

In a bid to give a minimalist and modern vibe Facebook has lined all UI elements in one row instead of two. Yes, you're right, it will make the window look cluttered and also reduce the functionality. Facebook has reduced the size of the message box to now accommodate other UI elements like camera, gallery, voice & now an additional ‘+’ button in one row.

In the redesigned version, it takes more efforts (read taps) to reach the features. For example, if you want to start a game, or set a reminder now it takes two taps instead of one.

Moreover, the report also says that ‘M’, the chatbot doesn't "perform most functions you would want from an AI chatbot". As of now, M pops up only in chats when it sees greetings or wishes such as "Happy birthday," "Happy New Year," and "Good morning."

Considering the feature is still in beta build, we can expect the company to develop the technology into a better chatbot.

Though the window looks cluttered, Facebook has done a good job by bringing emojis, stickers and GIFs under one umbrella.

But before you get hyped up, do remember all these UI changes are under testing and may not see the light of the day ever.
