Facebook relaunches its standalone Events app as 'Facebook Local'

Facebook is relaunching its standalone Events app as " target="_blank" rel="noopener">Facebook Local. Facebook Local combines events and permanent places to a single search engine powered by social network’s 70 million business pages plus reviews and friends’ check-ins.

“The new app, helps you easily find what to do, where to go, where to eat, or what you need — all recommended by the people you know and trust,” said Aditya Koolwal, Product Manager, Local. He told TechCrunch that the goal of the product is to basically make it easier to quickly look up information when making plans with friends.

The Local app will combine calendar and event listings and this aspect could turn social media platform closer to apps like FourSquare and Yelp that search and discover and provide those results for its users locally. The app will enable users to see the most recent activity, events and places their friends are interacting with and updates from events hosts and Pages they follow. There is also an interactive map and filter by time, category, location and more.

Facebook Local is available in the US for Android and iOS.
