Social networking sites are no longer satisfied with what’s there on their plate. They want more. Rather, they want people to have more out of them. So, whether it’s Twitter, WhatsApp or Facebook, they all want to be your one-stop destination for an array of services.
Making a move in the same direction, social networking giant Facebook has launched a host of new features that will let you order a pizza from the site and also book your next movie-tickets. Not just this, you can also get price quotes from shops and service providers or even let others suggest places you might want to visit — complete with a map.
Notably, Facebook has partnered with the likes of Delivery.com, Slice, Ticketmaster, Fandango, and Eventbrite to help users book tickets to movies and concerts, buy food and so on — all via the Facebook platform.
For other shops such as spas or hairstylists, users can request an appointment, which the merchant will confirm using Facebook Messenger.
The social media site has also launched a new tool to obtain recommendations from other users, including on shops and services. If the user activates the recommendations feature on a post asking for advice, friends can post comments with suggestions, which are then displayed on a map.
“People come to Facebook every day to connect and share experiences with friends and family. We share the great places we go and we ask our friends for advice when we need help getting things done. Today we’re starting to introduce a variety of new features that help you use those connections to discover new things in the world around you, decide what to do or where to go, and connect with local businesses in easier and faster ways,” reads the official blog post.
The recommendations and business features are starting to roll out in the US today, and the changes to Events will arrive “in the coming weeks.
