Facebook to launch India ops in 2 months

HYDERABAD, INDIA: Social networking site Facebook, which recently announced that it is investing in India by opening an office in Hyderabad, may start its operations in the country in less than two months.

The company's proposal to set up a unit in Raheja Mindspace SEZ in Hyderabad was approved by the Union Government on Saturday, said a PTI report quoting an official.

“The company is aggressively hiring people. Initially, they will be operating from an incubation centre in the SEZ,” the official said.

The new operations centre in Hyderabad will supplement the company's operations supported out of Palo Alto, California, Dublin, Ireland, and a recently-announced location in Austin, Texas. The Hyderabad office will be Facebook's first office in the Asian region.

The social networking giant, headquartered in Palo Alto, the US, has more than 8 million users in India. The company has more than 400 million active users worldwide.
