Facebook Home and HTC First: What you need to know

NEW DELHI, INDIA: Facebook Inc. unveiled a new software called Facebook Home. Home will allow users display mobile versions of their newsfeed and messages on the home screens of a wide range of devices based on Google's Android operating system.

The move may divert users from Google services and steal some of its rival's momentum in the fast-growing mobile arena, says a report on NDTV. The app can be downnloaded from Google Play Store from April 12 onwards.

Some features of the Facebook Home

1. The moment users turn the family of apps on, they can see a a steady stream of friends' posts and photos. 2. Notifications about calls, events, Facebook updates and other apps appear on users' home screen. 3. Allows one to chat, while they do other things, like watch videos or browse the web. 4. Facebook Home for Android will be available for download from the Google Play Store on certain devices, including the HTC One X, HTC One X+, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy Note II, says the official website of Home.

HTC First

Facebook Home will come pre-loaded on the HTC First, which was unveiled by HTC CEO Peter Chou. The smartphone will be available in matte black, white, red and pale blue. Some of the features of the HTC First are 4.3 inch screen, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and LTE capability. It will be available on April 12 and cost $99.99, on a two-year contract with AT&T.
