Confirming this report, the Wall Street Journal said it is not clear as to what would be the job role of the 21-year-old programmer, also known by the handle GeoHot.
It was in 2008 that George Hotz gained notoriety when he created a program that allowed iPhone users to modify their devices to run on other carrier networks, despite AT&T Inc. having an exclusive deal with Apple Inc. to provide service to iPhone users, according WSJ.
The news of his hiring became public via a posting on his Facebook page, which read: 'Facebook is really an amazing place to work... first hackathon over.'
A few months back he published instructions that allowed Sony PlayStation 3 owners to modify their game consoles to run unauthorized applications and pirated games. Though Sony sued him and even won a restraining order against the whiz from a California court, later the case was settled. Sony said the case was settled much before a group of hackers called Anonymous breach the data of PlayStation. However, it was alleged that Hotz was indirectly the cause of hacker attacks on Sony.
So, let's wait as to what is he expected to do at Facebook.
