CIOL Facebook will not spill the beans if you want to have private conversation on messenger

For those who use Facebook messenger for all sundry purposes, this might come as an inconvenience. Facebook is said to be working on separating the messaging service from the social networking site, which is currently integrated in the browser. This implies that you would soon have to download a separate app for Facebook messenger, if you want to continue using it.

Facebook has already ended support for chatting/messaging on its official Android and iOS apps, forcing all users to switch to the standalone Messenger app. Now it appears that the same fate awaits the mobile website version also.

The prospect of this happening is very near, as users have already started getting a notification stating, “Your conversations are moving to Messenger." The change is likely to be implemented this summer. Currently users can dismiss the notification asking them to move to Messenger, but as the tradition goes, Facebook may also make a complete shift to a separate messenger app. Facebook spokesperson also confirmed that such a shift is in the offing, and that it will help provide the ‘best experience’ in messaging, to users.

Facebook also plans to launch its chatbots, AI assistant called M, for its messenger, and may evolve into a space where users can directly engage with businesses. It makes sense for Facebook to monetise the messenger app, considering it is one of the most downloaded apps on Android with over 1 billion downloads.
