After a week, Facebook admitted data collection through the device. According to Facebook, it is capable of collecting data to target ads, but not so soon, it will take some time.

In a statement, Facebook confirms the miscommunication and said that the Portal is fully capable of being a data-collection monster, and that data can absolutely be used for ad targeting.

The voice and video calling portal is build on the messenger infra, thus it has similar capabilities to collect the same type of information including the length of calls, the frequency of calls. Facebook mentioned that “We may use this information to inform the ads we show you across our platforms. Other general usage data, such as aggregate usage of apps, etc., may also feed into the information that we use to serve ads.”

However, it's not only Facebook, Google and Amazon also do the same using their voice-activated speakers.
