F5 releases new BIG IP hardware platforms

BANGALORE,INDIA: F5 Networks, Inc., a provider in application delivery networking (ADN), today introduced the BIG-IP 6900 hardware platform, that would expands F5 products’ application delivery capabilities to meet the needs of a broader range of customers, including enterprises, service providers, and Web 2.0 content providers.

The announcement builds a momentum on the recently released entry-level BIG-IP 1600 and 3600 hardware platforms, as well as the high-end VIPRION application delivery controller (ADC) released in early 2008, said a press release.

It features an extensive portfolio of advanced Application Delivery Controller hardware offerings that provides enhanced value to the customer through increased performance and integrated functionality at lower price points.

The BIG-IP 6900 device has two dual-core processors and leverages F5’s Clustered Multiprocessing (CMP) technology to achieve superior performance and enable advanced ADC functionality, it added.

The new platform enables the customers to consolidate the IT infrastructure by cutting costs with high performance hardware.

It also leverages the next-generation business applications and social media tools, it said.

“Organizations of all sizes and industries are seeing the value of deploying integrated, flexible Application Delivery Controllers that enable them to move their business ahead on their own terms,” said Jason Needham, senior director, product management, F5.

He added that the demand for more advanced capabilities and processing power per device continues to expand the role of the ADC, organizations leveraging these devices are better equipped to scale their infrastructures as they grow or as business conditions change.

Jason commented, “Accordingly, we’ve seen a terrific response to the entry-level BIG-IP hardware platforms introduced in July, and we look forward to continued success in the mid-range ADC market as well.”
