BANGALORE: The increased quantum of talent required by the IT companies has clearly made hiring freshers inevitable. However, companies have challenges post hiring as the time taken by an average fresher to start delivering on the job is anywhere between 6-18 months.

Further, the companies have to significantly invest in training. Highlighting this challenge in a workshop cum panel discussion organized by Ascendum Learning Solutions on "Enhancing Learning Experience in Software Engineering", K R V Subramanian, CEO, Ascendum said, "Even as institutions emphasize on imparting courses based on the industry's requirements, the mode of doing so is still largely traditional. This makes it less interactive and less engaging to the learner to absorb and retain the concepts, methods and techniques, leading to this skill gap.”

“Ascendum provides eLearning solutions, which address this challenge by offering a highly interactive and engaging learning experience for students and practitioners alike. Our core offering revolves around the philosophy of 'Learn by Doing', which is the most natural way for anyone to learn", he said, reinforcing the need to adopt eLearning as an effective training tool in corporate training.

YC Roy, Associate Vice President, Training & Education - Valtech India, said, "Institutions and corporate training departments must blend Instructor led training with web based training, where the Learn by Doing approach as offered by Ascendum is emphasized. It also provides a platform for trainers to administer assignments online which is cost effective and finally prepares the learner to gear up to the needs and challenges of the industry".

Chander Sundaram, Academic Lead, Microsoft India and several other representatives attended the workshop from educational institutions in Bangalore. The panel discussion also saw Sandhya Ramachandran, Founder & CEO, Sudiksha Learning Dimensions, R K Gupta, Principal, ICFAI Institute of Science & Technology.

Ascendum has launched its eLearning offering on "Foundations of Object Oriented Analysis & Design" targeted at students in the educational system as well as practitioners in the industry. Ascendum's Learn by Doing courseware products on the anvil include titles on OOAD with UML 2.0, Design Patterns.
