Exclusive industrial cluster for Japan cos in TN

CHENNAI, INDIA: The Tamil Nadu government is planning to set up an exclusive industrial cluster for Japanese companies and an industrial township in the vicinity of Ennore port.

The investment area will include logistics park at Ennore and Sriperumbudur, the petrochemical and petroleum products zone between Cuddalore and Nagapattinam, according to Sundaradevan, principal Secretary, Industries Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.

He was addressing the audience at a seminar on ‘Doing business with Tamil Nadu' organised here recently by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).

There are already 240 Japanese companies and 60 representative offices in the state. The government further invites Japanese more investment in areas such as manufacturing, water treatment, renewable energy and minor ports.

T.T. Ashok, chairman, CII- Southern Region, and managing director of Taylor Rubber India Ltd, said the Japanese could consider investment in wind and solar power and aerospace. The state government has plans for generation of 3,000 MW of solar power with an estimated investment of Rs 30,000 crore.

“Land and other facilities were available, mainly in the southern districts of the State,” he said.

Tadashi Okamura, chairman, JCCI, said the Japanese industrial body and the government will sign an MoU to give a further boost for investment by SMEs.

He also expressed hope that the Government would ensure road connectivity, electricity and port facilities.
