This is according to Infonetics Research's 'Ethernet Switches and Application Delivery Controllers' report that tracks 3Com/H3C, Adtran, Alcatel-Lucent, Blade, Brocade, Cisco, Citrix Netscaler, D-Link, Extreme, F5, Force10, Huawei, Linksys, Netgear, Nortel, HP ProCurve, Radware, SMC, and others.

Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst, enterprise voice and data, Infonetics Research, said: "Given the market freefall in the first quarter of the year and continuing doubts about worldwide economic conditions, it is good news that spending on Ethernet switches increased five percent this quarter. While the Ethernet switch market is down 24 percent from this time last year, sales are moving up instead of down, and, based on vendor guidance, it looks like the market will see more growth in the coming quarter as well."

Report Highlights

Web-managed Ethernet switch revenue and port shipments increased in the double-digits in 2Q09.

Year-over-year, in a market that is otherwise down significantly, 10G and 1G PoE Ethernet switch port shipments are up.

10G ports are up a strong 33 percent over 2Q08.

The application delivery controller market was flat in 2Q09.

F5's application delivery controller revenue share increased while Cisco's decreased in 2Q09, giving F5 the clear lead two quarters in a row.
